eNews - Riverdale Heights Elementary - October 30, 2020

Updated: Jan 26, 2021

Riverdale Heights Families:

I want to thank each and every one of you for your partnership this school year.  Whether attending in our hybrid model or 100% online, we are excited to have your students back and engaged in learning for the 2020 - 2021 school year.

Our teachers are looking forward to virtual parent-teacher conferences and I have encouraged them to make time to hear how your child's learning model is going (both onsite and at home), and what hopes you have for your child this school year.  Our hope is to engage in a bidirectional conversation, as we partner with you in the unique circumstances surrounding this school year.

Over the past several weeks I have had the opportunity to visit classrooms, both onsite and online, and I wish I could paint a picture of the individualized approach teachers are taking to give each child what they need to advance their learning.  There is much to be proud of at Riverdale Heights.

I also want to take a minute to remind you that our book fair is virtual this fall.  Every purchase not only provides access to reading material for your child, it also puts books into our classrooms and library.  I am so grateful for the time and effort our PTA is putting forth to raise money for our school.  THANK YOU!

Have a wonderful and safe Halloween weekend.

Sincerely,

Jennifer RIchardson

Term 2 Attendance Policies: As we continue to focus on rigorous learning opportunities for your student, we are reviewing our attendance policies as we start term 2. In our current attendance models, a teacher's record of student participation is a part of the attendance formula. How do we define "participation"?

FOR THE 100% ONLINE LEARNER:

  • Participated:

    • The student was present for each of the live synchronous lessons in a day

    • Student is staying on pace with the class

    • There is evidence of work attempted/completed while at home

  • Not-participated

    • The student missed one or more live synchronous lessons in a day

    • There is little evidence of work attempted/completed while at home

 FOR THE HYBRID LEARNER:

  • Participated:

    • Student staying on pace with the class

    • There is evidence of work attempted/completed while at home
