Dear Riverdale Heights Families,

Elementary Campus Parent Portal Accounts: During your scheduled parent-teacher conference, your student's teacher will review the Term 1 Progress Report with you electronically. Progress Reports will be released through the Campus Parent Portal on Tuesday, November 1. Families that do not yet have a Campus Parent Portal account should contact their building office ahead of November 1 to obtain one. Paper copies of the reports will not be mailed this year.

Conferences: If you have not already done so, please sign up for a conference. Elementary Conferences will be held Tuesday, November 1st - Friday, November 11th. November 3rd is set assign for all conferences to be at the school from 3:30pm - 8:00pm. If that date is not possible for your family to come to the school, please look at the registration link and choose another time your child's teacher is available.

Health Message: PV’s school nurses are seeing an increase in both gastrointestinal illness and upper respiratory illness, including strep throat. Please be mindful of our district protocol for keeping your children home sick:

  1. Fever - Keep them home if they have a temperature > 100 degrees. A child should be fever free without taking ibuprofen or acetaminophen for 24 hours before returning to school.

  2. Vomiting or diarrhea - The same 24 hour rule applies. Your child should tolerate a regular meal or two before they come back.

  3. Coughing that won’t stop or anything different about your child’s breathing - Severe coughing is exhausting for the child. Consult your doctor for persistent cough or breathing that sounds or looks different than usual.

  4. Severe sore throat - A minor sore throat is usually not a problem, but a severe one could be strep, even if there is no fever. Other symptoms of strep in children are headache and upset stomach. See your health care professional for a throat culture to determine if it is strep. If your child is diagnosed with strep, keep them home until they have been on antibiotics for 24 hours.

  5. Uncontrolled pain- If your child has mild discomfort and is otherwise acting ok, you may want to give an over the counter pain reliever and send them to school. However if they are not able to participate in their normal school day, keep them home and call the doctor.

As always we encourage adequate rest, hydration, and proper hand washing to keep the germs at bay. For more information about how long an illness is contagious, contact your general practitioner or visit the CDC website.

Halloween Parties will be at the end of the day on Monday, October 31. We will limit in-class visitors to the two PTA parents. All families are invited to our outside parade at 2:15pm – weather permitting. As a reminder, please have your child choose a costume that brings out the best in them. No weapons, gory costumes or depictions of characters that harm children. We want everyone to have a fun time and not worry about being too scared. If you have any questions about costume choice, don’t hesitate to reach out. We can't wait to see your creativity.
