Dear Riverdale Heights Families,

Early Dismissal: Wednesday, October 6th, PV elementary schools dismiss at 1:30pm

Picture Day will be Tuesday, Oct. 5. Flyers will be sent home with students and online payments are encouraged. If paying by check, cash or credit card, please send the form with your student on Tuesday. We cannot accept late payments in our office.

LeClaire Road Closure Beginning on October 4th: Beginning on October 4th and continuing through November 5th, Wisconsin Street between 15th Street and North 26th Street will be closed. The detour for this section will be to utilize North 26th Street, 15th Street and Holland Street. This will be the first of seven phases on Wisconsin Street and 35th Street to prepare for the new roundabout intersection in front of Pleasant Valley Junior High. We will continue to communicate road closures impacted over the course of the school year. Please see this map for this Phase One closure.

October is Bullying Prevention Month. Pleasant Valley Schools will continue to work with students, staff, families, and the community to prevent bullying by talking about it, building a safe school environment, and creating a community-wide bullying prevention strategy. While being bully-free and supporting friendships is our work every single day of the school year, during the month of October our students, faculty, and staff will be intentional in our focus! To kick off the month, elementary students will enjoy a performance from one of our local arts organizations: Ballet Quad Cities! These visiting artists will dance the story of "Dorothy Goes to Oz: A Tale of Friendship and Teamwork". In this story of unlikely friendships, students will see how friends can commit to working together to achieve a common goal. To allow for social distancing, some students will watch the performance live-streamed to their classroom.

Cognitive Abilities Test: On October 11 - 15, the district will be administering the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) Screener to all 3rd and 5th grade students. This annual assessment looks at students’ abilities in the areas of Verbal (Analogies, Word Play), Quantitative (Number Patterns), and NonVerbal (Patterns). The CogAT Screener takes about 30-40 minutes to complete. If your child meets the score requirements on the CogAT Screener, they will be asked to complete the Full CogAT test later date in October.

Pleasant Valley uses this data to look at the district as a whole, as well as for advanced placement opportunities and enrichment for identified students. We also use the CogAT Screener as a data point for placement in the district's Extended Learning Program (ELP).

Student Hunger Drive Starts! The Student Hunger Drive begins Monday, October 4th. Pleasant Valley Schools will be collecting non-perishable food items packaged in unbreakable containers to donate to the Riverbend Foodbank throughout the month of October. Families from around the community benefit from the donations collected at our school and other schools in the Quad City area. During the week of October 4th, grade levels will compete to bring in the most donations and earn an extra recess. We can’t wait to see what kind of impact our school can make for our community. GO RIVERDALE HEIGHTS!

TONIGHT our Pleasant Valley Spartans will be facing the Bettendorf Bulldogs in not only football but in Fill-the-Truck! This is a friendly competition with Bettendorf to see who can collect the most cans and money for the Student Hunger Drive. Please bring non-perishable goods and/or money to donate and help us support our local community! The game is at Bettendorf. Look for more ways to donate in the coming weeks!
